NSPA participates in opening ceremony for Serbian IV Trust Fund

13 October 2016

NSPA’s Deputy Director of Logistics Mr. Orhan Muratli participated in the Opening Ceremonies of the TRZ Kragujevac demilitarization facility in Serbia today along with Mr. James Appathurai, NATO’s Deputy Assistant Secretary General for Political Affairs and Security Policy, Mr. Zoran Đorđević, Minister of Defence of Serbia, and many other diplomats and dignitaries.

The Serbia IV Trust Fund will be used to enhance the demilitarization facility, TRZ Kragujevac in Serbia, in its destruction of almost 2000 tonnes of surplus ammunition. The project is led by United Kingdom, and executed by NSPA. The total budget of the project is 3.7 M EUR.

The Trust Fund was initiated in 2013 following a request for assistance from Serbia to NATO and will fund up to MEUR 2.4 of industrial demilitarization over a 24 month period.

Destruction of surplus ammunition will increase the security and safety of the storage and allow for more effective management of resources. Enhancing the capabilities of the TRZ Kragujevac facility, which can also be made available to demilitarize other surpluses in the region, will contribute to regional security.
