NSPA joins Multinational Ammunition Warehousing Initiative

LUXEMBOURG - On 28 April 2021, National Armaments Directors from 18 NATO Allies and the General Manager of the NATO Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA) reaffirmed their commitment to work together to develop multinational capability cooperation initiatives to make Allies more interoperable.

This was done in the margins of the spring meeting of the Conference of National Armament Directors (CNAD) at NATO Headquarters in Brussels, where the NSPA General Manager, Ms Stacy Cummings, signed a Memorandum of Understanding joining other nine participating Allies in the Multinational Ammunition Warehousing Initiative (MAWI).  

The MAWI will provide its participants with a scalable, expandable and flexible solution for multi-national stockpiling of munitions. This framework, based on multinational cooperation, commonality of requirements and economies of scale, is a key feature of the Agency's capabilities in support of NATO's Allies and Partner Nations.

A first warehousing solution was established in Estonia in March 2022 to support NATO's enhanced Forward Presence (eFP).

In addition to MAWI, during the CNAD meeting, Allies welcomed new participants to the "Modular Ground Based Air Defence" (Modular GBAD) project and the "Command and Control capability for surface-based air and missile defence for the battalion and brigade level" initiative (SBAMD C2 Layer).
