📹 Türkiye: after the earthquake, NSPA provides critical recovery support

First village in Antakya making rapid progress with NSPA personnel and equipment

One of the most southern cities hit by the destructive earthquake in Türkiye was Antakya, and it is there that the NSPA Southern Operational Centre (SOC), in the lead for this operation, is setting up temporary shelters deploying the NSPA CP156 Capability Package. 890 containers have already reached the area.

The green plain on which the Antakya camp stands is being equipped with a large quantity of tents, set up by 24 SOC staff members working along with 22 external employees and 110 Turkish soldiers.

The village is making rapid progress to welcome 2.400 displaced people by mid-April 2023.

The equipment and services being added to the shelters include furniture, Role 1, utilities, vehicles, power generators and distribution, fuel, HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning), ablution and water treatment (connected to the nearby city water line), laundry, dining facilities, waste management.

The package includes also Real Life Support (RLS) meaning that services like catering and basic support will be assured throughout its operations.

NSPA SOC's effort will not be limited to one single village. In fact, the North Atlantic Council (NAC) approved-mission comprises additional two villages in different locations. The second village for 1600 people, in the vicinity of ISKENDERUN city, will be set up using CP156 assets and another SOC capability: the Leased Camp option. The third village, for 4000 people, will be fully built using NSPA SOC contractor for Leased Camp in a location currently under definition. NSPA will deliver food and fuel to the three villages

On 9 March 2023, Mr. Hulusi Akar, Türkiye's Minister of Defence and Mr. Süleyman Soylu, the Minister of Interior, visited the temporary shelters in Antakya. The Ministers were impressed by the quality of the village and the services provided, in addition to the dedication and commitment of NSPA's SOC technicians.
