NSPA Supports German MLRS Reutilisation Programme

LUXEMBOURG - The NATO Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA) is supporting the Federal Office of Bundeswehr Equipment, Information Technology and In-Service Support, in the execution of the German Multiple Launch Rocket System (MLRS) fleet long-term reutilisation programme.

NSPA will proceed with the inspection and recovery of selected parts from 16 MLRS systems, followed by the Demilitarisation, Dismantling and Disposal (D3) of all residual and non-usable components and material, and the sale of marketable materials (e.g. ferrous and non-ferrous metals).

The recovered parts shall support the sustainment of the remaining MLRS fleet until at least 2035. Some other parts will support the upgrade of the United Kingdom existing fleet, and the rest will be transferred to the NSPA Workshop spare parts stock for foreseeable repairs.

The project represents an example of circular economy ensuring the long-term provision of otherwise obsolete parts to the German MLRS fleet, showing how nations can obtain revenues from the sale of marketable materials, minimising recovery costs through consolidation of parts with other MLRS Nations, and promoting responsible disposal operations.
