NSPA secures data destruction through in-house capability

LUXEMBOURG - Uncontrolled IT assets disposition might result in data breaches, posing a high security risk for the organisation. As part of its Demilitarization, Dismantling and Disposal (D3) capabilities, the NATO Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA) offers solutions to its customers to ensure safe and secure data destruction by certified technicians in a dedicated workshop facility.

"Whenever IT equipment is replaced, we need to be vigilant to ensure that sensitive data does not fall into the wrong hands. Deleting files and formatting hard drives appear to be safe procedures but modern technology often allows restoring it by data recovery experts. Only the application of effective and certified data destruction methods will ensure that data is removed from your device and can never be restored for malicious purposes", explains Mr. Robert Elvish, NSPA Air and Land Combat Systems Programme Manager.

NSPA in-house facility is ISO 9001 and ISO 45001 certified capability. IT disposal services are available to all NATO Nations, Partners and other customers, as NSPA solutions for data destruction are adaptable to different regulatory requirements, with traceable documentation (Certificates of Destruction) and secure storage solutions. In 2020, approximately 10,000 obsolete hardware were disposed through this in-house facility.

The service is part of the NSPA D3 portfolio. The Demilitarization, Dismantling and Disposal Support Partnership (D3) Support Partnership was created in 2013 as a NATO Smart Defence Initiative Project. The D3 SP provides consolidated services after the retiring of defence equipment of all domains (air, land, sea) and for peculiar waste treatment.
