COVID-19 Missions: SALIS aircraft brings 73 tons of medical supplies to Poland


Luxembourg, 17 April 2020 – A second AN-124 aircraft arrived overnight (16 April 2020) at Wroclaw airport carrying about 73 tons of medical supplies. The cargo included 14 million masks, 300,000 protective sets and a mask maker machine purchased by the Polish government as part of efforts to combat COVID-19.


With this second mission tasked by the Polish Ministry of Defence to the Strategic Airlift International Solution (SALIS), Poland has airlifted a total of 100 tons of medical supplies.

The Antonov cargo aircraft took off in the morning of the 14th of April from the SALIS Base of Operations, in Leipzig/Halle airport, and loaded the cargo in Shanghai, China, on the following day. The aircraft reached final destination in Wroclaw airport on the 16th of April at 21.00 local time.

This is the seventh mission completed by SALIS in support to NATO nations. SALIS provides the nine NATO nations participating in the programme with assured access to transport aircraft. Poland, as Czechia or Slovakia, is currently using its flying hour quota to airlift urgent medical protective equipment from China and tackle coronavirus crisis.
