NSPA solves a safety related issue on British Multiple Launch Rocket System (MLRS) through its Post Design services

LUXEMBOURG - The NATO Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA) has recently installed and successfully tested an in-house designed Hand Brake Safety System for the British Multiple Launch Rocket System (MLRS) vehicles.

The Multiple Launch Rocket System (MLRS) is an armoured, self-propeller automatic system that fires surface-to-surface rockets from the M270 family of launcher weapons platforms. This major safety modification in the British vehicle was driven by a fatality occurred several years ago, caused by an uncontrolled movement of the MLRS vehicle. NSPA designed the Hand Brake Safety System and produced all the components in-house, preventing this kind of incident occurring in the future.

The work was performed in close liaison and valuable cooperation with the 26th Regiment Royal Artillery of the British MLRS Regiment, based in Larkhill, United Kingdom

NSPA supports the United Kingdom and six other MLRS user nations through the dedicated Artillery Rockets and Missile Systems (ARMS) Support Partnership (SP). Logistics support is tailored to the specific customer needs for the various operated MLRS configurations within the Nations. This includes supply and maintenance activities, especially management of MLRS common stocks, as well as specific national stocks.

Within this framework, NSPA has established an in-house MLRS workshop with the capability to repair and produce spare parts. Moreover, NSPA provides dedicated Post Design Services to perform different activities including Configuration Management, Technical Data Package Management, or Design and Modifications programmes, as the one provided to the MLRS B1 Launcher Hand Brake Safety System.
