The Naval Logistics Support Partnership charts a course through Mare Incognitum

Luxembourg, 17 August 2020 - This month, following extensive development, NSPA launched a fully customized naval version of its Electronic Customer Information System (eCIS). The upgraded eCIS modernises the provision of operational support to the participating nations of the Naval Logistics Support Partnership (NLSP) by providing enhanced IT capabilities that streamline data entry and reporting. This new version will replace antiquated and redundant tracking methods for over four thousand Logistic Requirements (LOGREQs) received per year.

NLSP members make extensive use of NSPA's contracted services to meet their fuel and miscellaneous requirements in more than 690 ports around the globe, in both national and international waters. While the basics of these services are familiar to all navies, eCIS represents a foray into uncharted waters.

Coordinated with all 20 NLSP participating nations, the implementation of eCIS enhances and modernizes the process of submitting LOGREQs for the naval, coast guard and auxiliary fleets supported under the NLSP.

eCIS will now enable more than 400 ships and/or National Ordering Authorities to issue their LOGREQs directly into NSPA's Enterprise resource planning system, issuing at the same time a Purchase Order (PO) for the services requested. This will facilitate closer control and regulate workflow processes, improving information-sharing and communications and eliminating redundant data recording. Overall, eCIS will provide a more efficient mean of responding to the operational support requirements of the NLSP.

The NLSP supports its member nations during exercises, missions and operations in the procurement of supplies and services. The NLSP executes projects by consolidating requirements and procuring from competitive sources, with the identification of ports where naval logistics support can be required. All these activities are performed during peacetime, crisis and/or war.
