NSPA increases Lithuanian Armed Forces training capacity

LUXEMBOURG - The NATO Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA) has successfully delivered and commissioned the first two lots of Live Fire Scenarios and Target Systems for the Lithuanian Armed Forces (LAF). This deployable equipment includes moving and stationary infantry and armour targets, allowing the troops to train tank shooting with live ammunition, paving the way for realistic live fire scenarios.

In 2019, NSPA was tasked by LAF to provide a complete Mobile Target Lifter System, consisting on 500 target lifters for both infantry and armoured vehicles, including static and movable targets. The scope also included portable Control Units, thermal imaging devices and spare parts, as well as terrain modulation and installation.

The equipment was recently delivered and installed, despite the challenges posed by COVID-19 restrictions, and is now in use by the troops for shooting training purposes in a Military Training Area in Lithuania. NSPA , together with the Lithuanian Armed Forces and the contractor, performed the necessary site engineering, as well as acceptance and training activities on site.

The project was co-funded by Germany, who will benefit from the Live Fire Scenario and Target System to train their deployed troops.

The system provides automatic feedback of hit location and dispersion of rounds allowing the shooter to take corrective action without moving up to the target.

Following the customer satisfaction for the service provided, NSPA was tasked by LAF to further increase troop training capacity by furthering the provision of additional target lifters, reaching 4.3MEUR of equipment delivery and on-site installation.
