NSPA General Manager conducts high-level engagements in Brussels and The Netherlands

LUXEMBOURG, 2 October 2020 - This week was a busy one for NSPA General Manager, Peter Dohmen, as he visited high level stakeholders in Brussels and The Netherlands. Between 28 and 30 September, he held meetings with NATO's Military Committee, the Dutch Defence Materiel Organisation (DMO), the Dutch Air force and Army and the Multinational MRTT Unit (MMU).

On 28 September 2020, Mr Dohmen met NATO's Military Committee (MC) in Brussels for an update on the latest Agency activities, focusing on NSPA's contribution to COVID-19 pandemic, support to operations, the Agency's acquisition role and cooperation opportunities with the EU. The briefing was very well received by the MC that praised the Agency's contribution to the readiness of the Alliance and its Deterrence and Defence posture. The MC is the senior military authority in NATO and the primary source of consensus-based advice to the North Atlantic Council and the Nuclear Planning Group on military policy and strategy. It also provides guidance to the two Strategic Commanders (Supreme Allied Commander Europe and Supreme Allied Commander Transformation).

After Brussels, Mr Dohmen travelled to The Hague and Breda, in the Netherlands, where he had meetings with high military and civilian representatives from the Dutch Defence Materiel Organisation (DMO), the Dutch Air Force and the Dutch Army. Discussions focused on current and future collaborative projects and opportunities between the Agency and The Netherlands, including the NATO medical stockpile and trust fund initiatives in support of NATO's COVID-19 response.

The Netherlands participates in 20 of 32 NSPA partnerships, being a high contributor in the support to operations domain and the life cycle management one, particularly in the Multinational MRTT Fleet (MMF) programme, where the Dutch country is the lead nation.

On 30 September, he finalised his trip to The Netherlands paying a visit to the Multinational MRTT Unit (MMU), in Eindhoven.

The MMU is the military unit that operates the MMF fleet, managed by NSPA. Mr Dohmen was welcomed by the Commander of the Unit, Colonel Jurgen van der Biezen and his management team and took the opportunity to meet the five NSPA personnel currently posted in Eindhoven and Cologne in direct support of the MMU.

The General Manager complimented the MMU and the NSPA personnel on the successful implementation of the MMF and also highlighted the importance of this new capability for EU and nations. The visit concluded with a visit on board of the MMF-2 aircraft, where Mr Dohmen witnessed first-hand the capability of the upcoming fleet.
