Visit of Major General Brian R. DAWSON, AM, CSC, Australian Military Representative to NATO and EU
22 August 2012
The official visit of the Australian Military Representative to NATO and EU, Major General Brian R. Dawson was hosted by the NSPA General Manager Mr Mike Lyden on Wednesday, 22 August 2012. Australia has strategic concerns similar to those of NATO. It belongs to the Alliance’s "partners across the globe", and makes a valuable and significant contribution to the NATO-led ISAF mission in Afghanistan. With some 1500 Australian Defence Force personnel deployed, Australia is the largest non-NATO contributor of troops to ISAF. Furthermore Australian defence personnel have participated in a number of NATO activities, including several military exercises.
It was Major General Dawson’s second visit to NSPA this year and he wanted to track the progress of NSPA’s cooperation with Australia. Experts of Legal Affairs joined the conversation in order to ascertain how to proceed relating to agreements.
Major General Dawson was appointed the Director General Preparedness in Defence Headquarters in 2001, Chief of Staff Land Headquarters from 2003 to 2005, Commandant of the Australian Defence Force Academy in February 2006 and Director General Public Affairs in June 2008. He assumed his current appointment as the Australian Military Representative to NATO and EU on promotion to Major General in March 2010.
