Construction nears completion of Military Women’s Training Centre for the Jordan Armed Forces

14 January 2020

The NATO Support and Procurement Agency has completed the donor phase of construction of a new Military Women’s Training Centre (MWTC) for the Jordan Armed Forces (JAF).

The new MWTC provides modern and increased capacity for the basic and career training of military women. It replaces a smaller centre with infrastructure dating from the 1950s. NSPA contracted to provide headquarter offices, male and female accommodation blocks, classrooms and lecture theatre, marching parade ground and outdoor skills-training bays.

JAF are the design authority and will complete their phase of the external works, services and supporting buildings to open the centre in March 2020.

As an additional request to support the military women, NSPA will add a women’s medical clinic and kindergarten for completion in 2020, to coincide with the 20th Anniversary of UNSCR 1325 Women, Peace and Security.

This was a major activity alongside developing an Action Plan, providing gender training and training support within the Third NATO Trust Fund project in Jordan. The project was led by the Czech Republic and Norway and designed and managed by the NSPA Trust Funds team in close cooperation with the Procurement team. A local Jordanian company was awarded the contract after international competition. The project has a value of 4.37 million euros.
