NSPA delivers winter clothing for Afghan Army
17 March 2016
NSPA’s General and Cooperative Services Programme was recently tasked to procure clothing and accessories for the Afghan National Army by the Combined Security Transition Command – Afghanistan on very short notice. The project, carried out under the auspices of the NATO Afghan National Army (ANA) Trust Fund, includes wet weather gear, underwear, gloves, hats, scarves, fleece jackets and socks amongst other items to be delivered in time for next winter.
The first major consignment was loaded and dispatched from Findel Airport in Luxembourg, under NSPA supervision, on 14 March 2016. Some smaller shipments of urgently needed items were sent earlier between December 2015 and March 2016.
The Programme succeeded in mobilizing industry and implemented contracts for almost 900,000 items. This work was carried out with minimal specifications, in response to very short deadlines and at a time when production lines were already booked. This project was successful due to the close cooperation of several NSPA Programmes, including the Operational Logistics Planning and Support Programme and the Transportation and Warehousing Division.
It is anticipated that additional requests for ANA clothing will be received later this year.
