NSPA Supports Spanish Army Helicopter Fleet

02 February 2016

NSPA’s Aviation Support Programme has been supporting the Spanish Army helicopter fleet, via a number of contractors including Eurocopter, Airbus Helicopters and INAER, for periodic and major inspections, modifications, overhaul and upgrade programmes for a number of years.  The helicopter fleet is comprised of approximately 40 Super Puma, Cougar, Chinook and AB-212 Helicopters and the contract value over the last five years has been in the order of €15M.

The picture shows a recent AB-212 Helicopter hand-over to the Spanish Army after a successful 3000 flight hour/five-year major inspection at INAER’s facility in Albacete Spain with the participation of the NSPA Project Manager, Spanish Army and INAER staff.

Another significant achievement of the Aviation Support Programme has been the turbine engines/modules support provided to the Spanish Army helicopters.  This is provided via a contract which was placed with Turbomeca four years ago.  The number of purchase orders placed during this four-year period has now reached 62 with an associated value of €15M.

The NSPA’s Aviation Support Programme also provides the Spanish Army with a helicopter component repair and overhaul service via a number of contracts with industry.  Over the past four years approximately 300 items have benefitted from this service at a cost of €8M.
