Transfer of Sophie cameras from LUX to BEL
22 January 2016
Staff from NSPA’s Air and Land Combat Systems recently facilitated the transfer of cameras from the Luxembourgish Army to the Belgian Army.
The cameras – specifically Sophie cameras - are Handheld Thermal Imager cameras, used in the battlefield for surveillance, target designation and reconnaissance.
Lieutenant Colonel Georges Eiden, Luxembourg Army, handed the cameras to Major Marc Casier, Belgian Liaison Officer to NSPA, on 8 January.
This transfer between the two nations was organised by the Air and Land Combat Systems Programme, under the umbrella of the recently created Night Vision & Optoelectronics Support Partnership. The Programme’s Electro-Optics Workshop inspected and tested all cameras before the transfer took place. This equipment transfer is a testament to the strong military cooperation between both nations.
