NSPA Aviation Support to Germany’s 5th Naval Air Wing

21 December 2015

NSPA awarded a contract to Airbus Helicopters to provide on-site maintenance support to the German Navy’s fleet of 21 Sea King MK41 helicopters.  Although the Origian Equipment Manufacturer of the Sea King MK41 is Westland in the UK, Airbus Helicopters acts as the national system support partner for maintenance, overhaul and development.

Dr Klaus Przemeck, Head of the Airbus Helicopters Germany Military Support Centre, stated “With our on-site assistance, the Navy can plan their maintenance better, increase their operational availability and concentrate more on operations.  This way of cooperation between civilian and military personal has been successful in the past and is also the basis for the new full-service contract of the German Air Force for their new H145M helicopter.”

The contract aims to improve the operational availability of the helicopters and provides three years of support with an option to extend for an additional two years if required.

In total a team of nine Airbus Helicopters specialists are assisting with scheduled and unscheduled maintenance tasks.  The team includes dock chiefs, avionics technicians, mechanics, metal sheet workers and a works manager.
