Demilitarization, Dismantling and Disposal (D3) Support Partnership

On 07-08 October the Agency hosted the 5th Demilitarization, Dismantling and Disposal (D3) Support Partnership Committee meeting. Under the Chairmanship of Denmark, the members welcomed Turkey as the latest member to the group.
In attendance also were observers from Finland, Germany and Portugal who are evaluating the project for potential future participation
Mr Bulent Tüdes, Manager of the General & Cooperative Programme stated that the project “although small at the moment, has great potential for expansion, especially in the area of ship dismantling”, an activity that has started for one of the members. During the last year alone, over 2,000 commercial vehicles, 1,000 armored personnel carriers, 20 Helicopters and other excess items representing over 18,000 tons of metal, have been treated for Reuse, Recycling or Resale (R3). These operations will net a return to the customer of 15 MEUR.
