On 30 September and 1 October 2015, the 12th Annual Military Airlift Conference was organized by Defence IQ. This event brought together members of the international community to discuss the latest developments in strategic and tactical airlift. NSPA was represented by Mr Wiek Noldus, Mr Francois-Xavier Herbert and Mr Michel Leenaarts.

At many occasions NSPA's business was discussed. Multi-national ownership and operations of the Strategic Airlift Capability (SAC) C-17s, multi-national ownership of A330 Multi-Role Tanker Transport (MRTT) aircraft, exchange of spare parts between international partners, the roll-out of A400Ms in Europe and the contracted outsized strategic airlift capacity are subjects that dominates today's discussion on pooling and sharing of valuable defense assets in Europe.

During the agenda item on the creation of an European pool of tanker aircraft, Mr Leenaarts provided additional information on the Agency's role during acquisition and sustainment of the system: "the Agency will do the acquisition, will execute the ownership roles on behalf of the members of the Multi-national Multi-role Tanker Transport Fleet (MMF) Support Partnership Committee and will execute the Life Cycle Management for the aircraft". "Keeping the configuration of the A330 MRTTs as close as possible to a civilian configuration and the military components such as AAR equipment as close as possible to other international users will guarantee an effective, efficient and affordable supply chain and maintenance solution in the future", explained Mr Leenaarts.

Mr Noldus briefed the audience on the latest developments in the SAC and the construction of new permanent facilities at Pápa Air Base in Hungary. In addition, he gave insight in the other activities within the Agency. The five capability areas NSPA has developed to attract potential customers were explained in more detail. "One of the reasons for the very successful start-up of the SAC is the involvement of NSPA as project management and setting-up of multi-national Support Partnerships are among the strengths of the Agency", highlighted Mr Noldus.
