SAC Supports airfield seizure exercise
03 March 2015
More than 750 troops from Hungary and the United States participated in exercise Warlord Rock 2015 in western Hungary.
The objective of the exercise was to allow fighting, combat support and combat service support forces to exercise allied cooperation for the planning, organization and the execution of airdrop operations.
As a part of the event, Pápa Air Base hosted an airfield seizure exercise on 26 February with a C-17 aircraft participating in the airlift support of the joint operations of the two member nations of the Strategic Airlift Capability (SAC). The airdrop was supported by the operational arm of SAC, the Heavy Airlift Wing (HAW).
“Todays exercise shows that SAC member nations not only use this capability collectively for global “out of area” operations, but also to support training of their forces in the rapid deployment of troops, supplies, and equipment.” explained Mr Wiek Noldus, NAM Programme Manager.
SAC has supported the training and exercise activities of the US Army and the Hungarian Defence Forces with numerous airdrop missions ever since the start of its flight operations in 2009. Exercise Warlord Rock 2015 was the first occasion when the airdrops took place as part of a combined airfield seizure operation involving different airlift aircraft and ground troops at the home base of the SAC.
