NSPA enables solar power for Afghan universities
17 February 2015
The General and Cooperative Services Programme recently launched a project to provide solar power systems to nine universities in Afghanistan.
Afghanistan Universities are connected to the internet thanks to the NATO SILK – Afghanistan project. A high speed internet connection is provided using satellites and fiber optics technologies. In order to feed this technology, a reliable electricity supply is required.
NSPA staff provided expertise for the project development, acquisition and installation of the first photovoltaic system at Balkh University in Mazar-e Sharif, Afghanistan. The power generated by these solar panels will provide the electricity supply for the internet connection in the case of a loss of grid supply.
