NLSE database enhanced

02 February 2015

The COMMIT database is one of the main pillars of NATO Logistics Stock Exchange (NLSE), the web-based system that allows on-line exchange of re-distribution items as well as on-line supply. The database records all national inventory data based on the previous eight quarters.

The NLSE has recently been upgraded with an entirely renewed version of the database, including its related upload format and its ordering workflow. COMMIT Support Partnership nations will be able to seamlessly migrate to the new system.

Under the governance of the COMMIT Support Partnership Committee (CPC) and with the approval of national representatives from the NLSE Process Team (NPT), this major upgrade was successfully completed by the NSPA IT division in coordination with General and Cooperative Services Programme staff and CPC members, on time and within budget. It will improve data accuracy and reliability and offer many enhancements such as:

  • the ability to record several part numbers, related suppliers or manufacturers and management data under a single NSN;
  • better usage of the quantity fields to improve the precision of the average yearly demand or the prediction on future demand;
  • standardization of the item description by using NATO Codification System data;
  • better detection of errors.

COMMIT V2, as it is being called, will also permit better and easier identification of common items in nation’s inventories, and in the future, will be able to provide users with recommendations from the virtual stock management system.
