Commission, Acceptance, Training and VIP visit at SOC
06 May 2014
The Southern Operational Centre (SOC), Taranto has recently hosted the Commissioning and Acceptance (C&A) of many deployable assets belonging to the CP 05A 156 (CP156) Large Headquarter Camps.
SOC staff have also received training on the power generation and distribution systems (including bulk fuel storage), various configurations of robust tented structures ranging from 30m² to 400 m², camp access lighting and a modular roofing system for the workshop facilities. All materiel for CP156 is procured by the General and Cooperative Services Programme Office, who also arranged the training which was delivered by the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM). Time lapse videos were made for future training purposes, which can be viewed on the SOC goldmine web page.
A ‘Distinguished Visitors day’ was held on Thursday the 10th of April, including NSPA General Manager, Mr Mike Lyden, Major General Vincenzo Santo (JFC Brunssum), Major General Mujdat Uzun (JFC Naples) and General Alberto Rosso (ITAF), all of whom were impressed by the small camp which had been constructed as part of this C&A exercise. Feedback has been extremely positive not only on the quality of the deployable assets but also regarding the hospitality provided by the SOC during this event; the day went exceptionally well with many local media reporting its success and the business of both the NSPA and SOC roles in support of NATO, also what the SOC brings throughout the region in respect of employment and support to the local economy.
