Visit of German Delegation

07 June 2013

On 29 May 2013, a group of German policy makers visited Pápa Airbase, the Main Operating Base for the Strategic Airlift Capability (SAC) and the main location of the NATO Airlift Management (NAM) Programme Office. The group consisted of several advisors to members of the German Parliament in the area of security policy and defence budgets.

The purpose of the visit was to familiarize the guests with the strategic airlift operations at Pápa Airbase and to update them on the current status of SAC. The leadership of the main parties involved in SAC, i.e. the NAM Programme Office, the Heavy Airlift Wing, Boeing and Pápa Airbase, provided information on the successes, challenges and opportunities of this relatively new Programme, which is becoming well-known as a prime example of ‘Pooling & Sharing, Smart Defence and Smart Support’.
