NSPA has several workshop and engineering facilities, as follows:

  • The Communications, Air and Missile Defence Programme (LD) Workshops :
    • Engineering Section Laboratory;
    • Calibration Laboratory, in Capellen, Luxembourg;
    • Precision Measurement Equipment Laboratory, in Geilenkirchen, Germany;
  • The Air and Land Combat Systems Programme (LM) Workshop.

The Communications, Air and Missile Defence Programme (LD) Laboratories

The specialized engineering laboratory provides engineering support for the repair of equipment managed by the Communications, Air and Missile Defence Programme. NSPA engineers use the lab to prepare modification kits and to develop and build prototypes. The technicians are involved in the repair of power supply units for military radars and activities involving on-site cable and antenna replacement and lightning protection maintenance for individual NATO nations.

NSPA engineering and calibration services are provided by the Secondary Reference Laboratory, at Capellen, and a Precision Measurement Equipment Laboratory (PMEL) at the NATO Early Warning Air Base at Geilenkirchen, Germany. A Field Calibration Team of technicians based in Capellen also travels extensively throughout NATO with its mobile workshop equipment to calibrate instrumentation on-site.

The facilities at Capellen are certified to ISO/IEC 17025:2005 standard.

The Air and Land Combat Systems Programme (LM) Workshop

The LM Workshop is a large, purpose-built facility performing supply, maintenance, repair, design and modification activities. The workshop has nearly 60 technicians and specialists – ranging from optical engineers and electrical and electronic experts to paint sprayers and warehousemen – who are primarily involved in work on the Multiple Launch Rocket System (MLRS) and the TOW anti-tank weapon system. Engineering activity on other equipment is also undertaken to assess problems, evaluate system performance and to propose improvements. Some depot level maintenance tasks are performed in support of the M-60 A3TTS Main Battle Tank and the Patriot missile system.

The facilities are certified to EN 9100:2009 standard.
